DEVELOPMENT
Story Is the Foundation of Everything We Create.
At Pink Coyote Films, development is where a short film is truly born. This is the stage where ideas are explored, refined, and shaped into something with emotional weight and cinematic intent.
We approach each project with a focus on human, character-driven storytelling, building narratives that resonate on a deeply emotional level.
Every film begins with a simple but essential question: What is this story really about?
From there, we dig beneath the surface—identifying themes, discovering subtext, and uncovering the emotional core that will drive the entire film. We’re not interested in surface-level concepts. We look for stories that feel honest, specific, and alive.
Our development process is both structured and instinctive.
We move through concept exploration, story development, and treatment writing to establish a clear narrative foundation.
During this stage, we define character arcs, tone, pacing, and the overall dramatic structure that will guide the film from beginning to end.
Character is always at the center. We build people first—individuals with distinct voices, flaws, and motivations. The story grows naturally from who they are and the choices they make under pressure.
We also begin translating story into visual language early in development.
Through mood, composition, and visual references, we start to shape how the film will feel—aligning story and imagery from the very beginning.
For us, development is not just preparation—it’s authorship.
It’s where intention meets imagination, and where a clear cinematic vision begins to take shape before a single frame is shot.
