Doors Stay Shut

English: | Short | Drama | 10 Pages | 2026

Log Line:

When a psychiatrist probes the fractured mind of a troubled woman, a forgotten fire, a dead mother, and a locked door emerge from the past—revealing that her personalities aren’t just hiding the truth; they’re hiding her from it.

Synopsis:

In 1967, Eleanor Whitaker sits for a psychiatric evaluation at St. Blackwood Asylum, where a simple interview begins to unravel the fragile architecture of her mind.

As distinct identities emerge—each protecting her from a different piece of the past—fragments of a childhood fire begin to surface.

Ruth maintains order. Dorian masks pain with theatrical charm. Maggie weaponizes the anger Eleanor cannot bear. And Tommy, an eleven-year-old boy, remembers what the others cannot face.

As the memories converge, Eleanor must confront the devastating truth beneath her fractured identity: surviving the fire was only the beginning of her suffering. The deepest wound was being left behind.
